Baby Get Your Shine On - An Ode to Party Lights
“There was a time when meadow, grove, and stream,
The earth, and every common sight
To me did seem
Apparelled in celestial light..."
Williams Wordsworth
There are a handful of things in this world that make me happy, without fail, every single time. They are few and far between, and most people would find them completely ridiculous. One such thing is party lights. My favorites are the ones with the big round bulbs that glow yellow and hot. I also have an affinity for white twinkle Christmas lights. I have a giddy appreciation for novelty themed lights, glowing flamingos and shining grizzly bears. I feel nostaligic and passionate about bright paper lanterns hanging from thin pieces of wire, although I can’t recall any occasion from this life or the last that would have inspired such strong feelings about glowing pink accordion paper. Big fat bulbed multicolored Christmas lights make my heart skip a beat. Any sort of light you can string and hang is, in my opinion, a party light. I think we should string them on every tree, handrail, and awning between here and Timbuktu.
I love the cozy glow they offer, against a dark summer night. I love they way they twinkle here and there, like fallen stars or lightning bugs caught in jars. And most of all, I love the way they look when strung up on a camper. Twinkle lights are the epitome of glamping, just one small step behind chandeliers if you ask me. So come on baby, get your shine on… put your party lights on. (P.S. Anything by Florida Georgia Line? On my list of happy things fo' sho' baby...)
