Glamper of the Week - Janet and Miss Itty Bitty!
I have discovered the glamping community is filled with the nicest, most creative people you’d ever hope to meet. But even among the nicest of the nice people, there are jewels that stand out above the rest. Janet Mekech is one of those jewels. When I first heard her story about her vintage 1965 Kit Companion camper, named Miss Itty Bitty 2, it brought tears to my eyes. Janet is a sweetheart, and Miss Itty Bitty 2 is just as cute as she can be!

Janet has always had an eye for design, and a love for decorating, so when her friend JJ recommended she check out this “glamping stuff” she began to research just exactly what that meant. She decided it looked like fun, and began the search for a small camper that could sleep four and be pulled by a small pickup truck. After looking for some time, she found her Kit Companion, which appeared to be in good shape and have everything she thought she would need in a glamper. Unfortunately, the camper wasn’t in as good of shape as she first thought. The camper had hail damage that hadn’t shown in the photos, and she was disappointed when she first saw it. Her story is just a reminder that you need to thoroughly inspect any trailer before you purchase, and look for any problems that might be hiding before you buy your glamper project!
After repainting and resealing it, along with a lot of hard work, she was finally able to dive in to the part she enjoyed most, decorating it. She didn’t have a particular theme in mind, although she would classify it as a little bit country and Americana. She wanted the inside to be for adults, and the outside to be for children.
Luckily, right around the time she began working on the project, a friend of hers was selling her glamper and no longer needed the decorations from it, so she was able to use those items, then customize the theme even more with her own touches from EBay and Amazon. Janet’s advice for decorating your own trailer is, “is always fill it with things you LOVE. It doesn't matter if it matches. And you don't have to spend a lot of money. Painting will go far and recycling is great.” Janet’s daughter helped decorate Miss Itty Bitty 2, and Janet incorporated lots of her daughter’s favorite things, because she had a big surprise… even though her daughter didn’t know it, Janet was secretly making this trailer for her!
That’s right, the trailer was going to be a gift for Janet’s daughter, which is the sweetest thing we’ve heard in a long time. Janet told us, “This trailer was made for my daughter and her little family. She has had many surgeries that have created a lot of medical bills. I just wanted her to have something where they could go out and have some fun without it costing a lot of money. The fun part is she helped paint the outside and had No idea that this was for her. We even went camping twice and she didn't know. All she would say is, “This is what I want someday, this is all my favorite,” which of course I knew! So my husband and had a BBQ and presented to her and her family. She and her husband were in shock, and of course he wanted to change the paint job to camo.” For now, the paint job remains whimsical and fun for the kids, no camo in sight, just Mickey and Minnie Mouse to remind us it’s a small camper world after all…
