Glamping at Sequoia National Park with Tammy
Spring is here, and it’s time to start taking those first trips of the season. Tammy Brenner is one step ahead of the rest of us, she’s already taken their first trip this year, and had a fabulous time with her family! We’re jealous and can’t wait to hit the open road, but not until after we convince her to make us a pair of those adorable glamping shoes. Tammy and her family took their first trip this year to the KOA Visalia/Sequoia National Park. She thought it was great, “If you ever get a chance to visit the Sequoia National Park go, it's beautiful! We even got to see a Mama bear with her 3 cubs as we were walking along the trail. On our way home we stopped at this neat little place & on our way out we saw another Shasta.”
(Don't you LOVE her chalkboard door? It says "We took the road less traveled and now we don't know where the hell we are!" SO CUTE! It's easy to copy Tammy's great ideas! You can get your own chalkboard paint for less than $10.00 by clicking HERE. Then pick up some flamingos HERE. And some camper lights HERE. I want everything she has!)
Those sequoia trees are AMAZING! Tammy highly recommends Sequoia National Park.
The bears like it there too!
On the way out of town, Tammy saw this sister Shasta - two Shastas in a wild west town? Too CUTE!
Tammy and her family have come a long way since their early camping days. When her children were younger they used to tent camp, but the kids are all grown up now and they wanted to go a different route for camping with their grandchildren. “We’ve just started "camping" again with family & friends for a few years now. But we were renting the cabins at the KOA's which was getting pretty expensive so we decided if this was something we were going to do we needed to start looking for a trailer. Tent camping just wasn't for us anymore we wanted some luxuries that tents didn't provide. We didn't set out to buy vintage we were looking at newer & older trailers, but I had seen a Shasta and fell in love, but it was gone before we could get to it. So with lots of patience & lots of looking a perfect one came up on Craigslist. It wasn't until we found ours and starting looking for parts that we soon found out there's a whole vintage world out there & it's very popular,” Tammy said.
Tammy’s vintage Shasta is completely adorable, with all of her handmade touches, and special hidden treasures included to make her grandkids smile. “Our Minions are always a hit. The grandkids are always buying me Minion stuff and that's how they came about. As far as a theme I just loved everything Shasta so I went with that. Then I found my pink rug and thought I'd add flamingos to add the pink in there. Not too much so my hubby would still be okay with it. We don't have an official name, but we keep calling her "little beauty" so will see if that what it ends up being or something just calls to us.”
(Look at her trash can - it says "TRAILER TRASH!" And do you spy that little minion hiding in the dinnette?)
Tammy did all of the decorating and sewing for her Shasta herself, “I've made everything. Towels, Shasta rug, Shasta quilt etc... That's what's it's all about, sharing and showing you don't have to spend a fortune to make your trailer cute and you!” The most fun projects she’s created for her camping adventures were these adorable painted shoes, and her pink lanterns.
The most rewarding project was this handmade quilt, which took months and months to make. We love it too, along with those super glampy pillows. Where can we get the one with the man by the stream?!
Tammy has some great ideas for traveling with small children, since she does travel with her grandchildren on occasion. She says one of the kids’ favorite things to do is crafts, “Whether it's gathering sticks on our walks and making Christmas tree ornaments or just painting. Oh and a must bug catching stuff they spend hours looking for & catching bugs. Their favorite thing to do.” Want some bug catching gear of your own?
